Nana Gyamfi Kumanin Sarpong Swears Oath Before Otumfuo as Mowirehene
The enstoolment of Nana Gyamfi Kumanin Sarpong as Mowirehene has been formally affirmed after he swore the oath of allegiance before Otumfuo Osei Tutu II during a sitting of the Kumasi Traditional Council on July 21, 2025.
Before the occupant of the Golden Stool, the newly installed chief pledged loyalty, honesty and readiness to serve the Asantehene whenever called upon.
His recognition comes months after controversy emerged over the royal status of the Queen of Mowire, Obaapanin Agyaponmaa Konadu, during the process to fill the vacant stool.
Following deliberations on the matter, the Asantehene ordered the queen to withdraw from the nomination exercise after she was deemed not to be of royal lineage.
Responsibility for selecting a candidate was subsequently transferred to the royal family, with the family head, Opanin Kwabena Ofori, directed to oversee the customary procedures leading to the nomination.
Under tradition, queens ordinarily nominate candidates for vacant male stools. However, where the occupant of the female stool is not a royal, custom requires the royal family to take over the process.
