Biography of Nana Gyamfi Kumanin Sarpong
Nana Gyamfi Kumanin Sarpong, known in private life as Melvin Willie H. Sarpong, was born on 17 July. He is the son of the late Nana Yaa Achiaa of Mowire and the late Nana Kwaku Sarpong of Amoam Achiase.
He began his early education at Methodist Primary School at Old Tafo in Kumasi. He later attended Station Garrison JHS and Famous Tapass ‘B’ JHS, both in Kumasi. For his secondary education, he studied Visual Arts at Agona SDA Senior High School and later at Asanteman Senior High School.
After completing his education, Nana Gyamfi Kumanin Sarpong travelled abroad in search of broader opportunities. He lived in both the United States of America and Canada before eventually settling in Gent, Belgium, where he lived for several years with his wife and six children.
While in Belgium, he founded the ASANTEMAN Gent Association VZW in Gent, an organisation aimed at bringing together Asantes and promoting unity, culture, and community welfare among Ghanaians living abroad.
Coming from a large family background, he is part of eleven children on his father’s side and is the second-last among them. On his mother’s side, they are six siblings, and he is the last born.
He has since returned to Mowire, where he continues to uphold the traditions, values, and heritage of his people.
Throughout his life journey, Nana Gyamfi Kumanin Sarpong has maintained strong ties to his roots, culture, and family heritage, values that continue to shape his leadership and identity.
