Mowire Stool Draped in Black During Asantehemaa’s Dɔte Yie
The stool of Nana Gyamfi Kumanin Sarpong, Mowirehene, was draped in black cloth on September 16, 2025, during the Dɔte Yie of the Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III in keeping with Asante custom.
Within the traditions of Asanteman, the Mowirehene is regarded as the husband of Nana Konadu Yiadom III, making the symbolic covering of his stool with black cloth an important part of the rites observed on the occasion.
The act reflected the customary bond between the Mowire stool and the office of the Asantehemaa, with the black draping serving as a sign of solemnity during the traditional observance.
The Queen, who was the only remaining sibling of the Asantehene, passed away peacefully at her residence at the Manhyia Palace on August 7, 2025.
